“I want to have peace, joy, and freedom”

Is this you? It is common for people who are not financially stable to desire peace, joy, and freedom.

Money can keep you going in circles, getting up in the mornings, getting ready for the day, working your 9-5s to pay your bills, and low on energy at the end of the day to do anything for yourself, and once pay time comes, there isn’t anything left for fun. All your money went faster than it took for you to make.

You have seen your parents experience the same cycle, but this does not have to be your truth. You can do things differently and change the way you live your life. It is normal to want peace, freedom, and joy. You are simply tired of being in survival mode.

Are you ready to do things differently?

The truth is that peace, joy, and freedom start with you deciding that you are ready to take action and committed to doing things differently.

Notice how the title of this post did not say, “This is how you get out of debt fast” or “The fast way to experience more peace is,” and that is because this will take time. There is no fast way to your money goals. It is a marathon, not a sprint.

When you have control over your finances, you can experience less stress, more happiness, and the freedom to pursue the life of your dreams.

Here are some practical steps to help you make smart money choices:

Create a Budget

Budgeting is the primary source of peace. Peace comes from knowing where your money is going and that every dollar you make has a job that supports your life and goals.

Start by tracking your income and expenses to understand where your money is going. A well-planned budget allows you to allocate funds to your priorities, ensuring you cover essentials and save for the future.

Save for Emergencies

An emergency fund is crucial for financial peace and freedom. Aim to save three to six months’ worth of living expenses. This cushion can protect you from unexpected financial setbacks, such as job loss or medical emergencies, providing a sense of security and peace of mind.

Consider slowly increasing to a year once you reach six months of savings. This is not a high priority as it is to save your first three months, but it can give you peace of mind to know you do not have to rush out of a difficult situation because you do not have money to pay your bills.

Increasing your income is the fastest way to reach your goals. Consider changing jobs or negotiating your current salary to increase your salary significantly.

Pay Off Debt

Debt can be a significant source of stress. Constantly thinking about your numbers and how much you make now goes toward the debt.

To free yourself from financial burdens, prioritize paying off high-interest debt, such as credit cards. High interest rates eat at your monthly payments, so it often feels like you are not making progress. Use strategies like the debt snowball or debt avalanche methods to tackle your debts in a way that works for you. Becoming debt-free will bring you closer to financial freedom and joy.

Reminder: paying off debt takes time. Set automatic payments and trust your debt repayment plan. There is no need to think about it 24/7.

Invest for the Future

Investing is a powerful tool for achieving long-term financial freedom.

Start by contributing to retirement accounts like a 401(k) or IRA. Companies often match your contributions to a certain percentage as part of your compensation package. Take advantage of that free money! Diversify your investments to spread risk and maximize returns. The earlier you start investing, the more you can benefit from compound interest, bringing you closer to your financial goals.

Planning for retirement is crucial because you want to experience joy and freedom. This won’t magically happen. You have to be proactive and prepare for it. Get clear about when you want to retire, what you want your life to look like, and how you want to spend your days.

Allow yourself to dream because you can build a life you have never seen your family experience. Estimate your retirement needs and create a plan to achieve those goals. Regularly review and adjust your retirement plan to ensure you stay on track. Having a well-prepared retirement plan provides the confidence and freedom to enjoy your golden years.

Live Within Your Means

Living within your means is essential for financial stability and reaching your goals faster. Avoid lifestyle inflation even as your income grows. Very often, as soon as our income grows, we want to get the latest car and upgrade our phone, even when it works just fine. What if you hold off for a while so that you can put your money to work now?

Focus on needs over wants and be mindful of your spending habits. This approach will help you build wealth and experience financial peace. Even though it seems like a big sacrifice, you are much closer to experiencing joy, peace, and freedom because you are focused on using money as a tool to get you there.

Seek Financial Education

Continuous financial education is key to making informed decisions. Read books, attend workshops, listen to podcasts, and follow financial blogs to stay updated on personal finance strategies, tips, and tricks. You will feel empowered, and it will help you stay committed!

Knowledge empowers you to make better financial choices, allowing you to build a life on your terms and experience joy, peace, and freedom.

Practice Gratitude and Mindfulness

Financial peace isn’t just about numbers; it’s also about mindset. Practice gratitude for what you have because once upon a time, you prayed for what you have now. We become so focused on what we want and the next thing, but we do not often express gratitude for where we are.

This positive mindset can reduce stress and increase joy, helping you live a more fulfilled life and be mindful about the things you treasure, which material items can often cloud. America does a great job of throwing the consumerism bait with the latest and cool items, leading to debt or a pause on our savings. However, what is most important is regulating our stress levels, focusing on our health so we live longer, and creating strong relationships with loved ones.

Ask yourself: What is important to you?

Achieving peace, joy, and freedom is possible with a proactive approach and making smart money choices. You can transform your financial situation in the next six months to one year. You have to commit to doing things differently and you will see how your life flourishes as you invite more joy and peace into your life.

Remember, financial freedom is a journey, not a destination. Stay committed to your goals, and you will experience the peace and joy that come with financial stability.
