Are you considering becoming a fur parent and wondering if pet insurance is worth the cost?

Becoming a fur parent is the most beautiful type of love, but it also comes with great responsibility.

In this blog post, we will explore why pet insurance is not just an optional expense but a crucial investment that can save you money on vet bills. Pet insurance can provide financial security and peace of mind, from unexpected accidents to chronic illnesses.

Insurance should start as soon as you bring your pet home. If you wait a while to get insurance and start the vet visits, your pet might not qualify for a wellness package, which your pet will need that first year. If your pet develops a condition within the first year, it will be counted as a preexisting condition, and your insurance will not cover it.

So, when your pet insurance starts matters, the sooner, the better!

Financial Protection Against Unexpected Costs

One primary reason to invest in pet insurance is to protect yourself financially against unexpected veterinary expenses. Just like humans, pets can fall ill or get injured without warning, leading to medical bills, which most of the time are emergencies.

With pet insurance in place, you won’t have to think about draining your savings or getting into debt to provide the necessary care.

Coverage For Routine Care

While many people associate pet insurance with accidents and emergencies, some policies also cover routine care such as vaccines, annual check-ups, and dental cleanings.

By opting for a comprehensive policy that includes routine care coverage, you can spread the cost of preventive services throughout the year, saving money on overall healthcare expenses.

Avoiding Tough Financial Decisions

Many pet owners face difficult decisions when their pet requires expensive medical treatment when they do not have pet insurance. Some may be forced to choose between providing the necessary care and facing financial hardship.

By investing in pet insurance from the start, you can avoid these tough decisions, and ensure that your pet always receives the care they need, no matter the cost.

Pet insurance billing does not work like it does for humans. You have to pay out of pocket and submit receipts for reimbursement. Your pet will need its emergency fund. Ensure you understand the policy you choose, how much it covers, and the procedures it covers. This will give you an understanding of how much you will need to save for out-of-pocket costs.

When shopping for pet insurance, it’s essential to research and choose a policy that meets your pet’s specific needs.

Consider coverage limits, deductibles, and reimbursement percentages to find the best value for your budget. Additionally, be sure to inquire about any exclusions or limitations in the policy to avoid surprises down the road

Peace of Mind

The most valuable aspect of pet insurance is the peace of mind it provides. Knowing that you have coverage for your loyal friend’s needs can alleviate the stress and anxiety that often accompany becoming a fur parent.

Instead of worrying about paying a veterinary bill, you can focus on enjoying quality time with your cute pet.

Start Early For Maximum Savings

Enrolling your pet young is one of the best ways to save money with pet insurance. Premiums are typically lower for younger, healthier pets, and preexisting conditions are often not covered. By enrolling early, you can ensure you have maximum and continuous coverage throughout their life, saving money in the long run.

Pet insurance is not only for the extravagant pet parent. It is a practical financial decision that can mitigate the high costs associated with unexpected veterinary care. Think about it as a safety net for your loyal companion’s health.

Staying prepared ensures you won’t have to choose between your pet’s well-being and your budget.

How it looked like for me:

Atlas and Nova made me a fur mom! They are sisters from the same litter, and they are Bernedoodles (Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle). They are quarantine puppies, meaning when everyone was indoors in 2020 getting pups, we did too! We had all the time in the world to care for and train them. I am forever grateful to them for making our quarantine experience so lovely and fun.

In 2020, I found the best pet insurance for my two pups, reimbursing me for 90% of their vet bills.

Nationwide pet insurance did not consider the surge in pet ownership, and they had to stop that package because it was too good, and financially it did not benefit Nationwide. Yes, we got lucky here! Atlas is my white bernedoodle, and her tummy is so sensitive! She was prescribed a food bag that cost $110, yikes! Luckily, because it is prescribed, I get reimbursed 90% of every purchase.

I cannot imagine how much more expensive our pups would be if I did not have pet insurance. They receive the best care and I never worry if it is on the budget.
