Have you ever found yourself stuck in a routine that feels more like a cycle?
Wake up, go to work, come home, watch TV, sleep, and repeat. It’s easy to fall into this rhythm without realizing how much it limits your potential. But what if I told you that by taking control of your finances, you could create opportunities for yourself that you didn’t even know were possible?
I remember being in San Francisco, overwhelmed by the daily grind and high cost of living. I didn’t want my life to be about working five days a week just to recharge on the weekends and do it all over again. I craved more joy, freedom, and more time to breathe simply.
Step 1: Face Your Finances
The first step in creating opportunities for yourself is simple, though not always easy: face your finances. I knew I needed to make a change, and that started with me sitting down and looking at my numbers. I had to figure out where my money was going and what I could do differently to achieve my goal.
Facing your finances is daunting initially, especially if you’re unsure where to start.
But here’s the thing: when you take that first step, you’re opening doors to new possibilities. You’re allowing yourself to take control, which is the first step toward creating opportunities for yourself.
Step 2: Research and Plan
Once I had a clear picture of my finances, I began researching how to create the life I wanted. I was always running my numbers to see how much it was going to cost me.
Part of my stress came from my environment. San Francisco, while beautiful, was expensive, crowded, and fast-paced. I wanted something different—something that aligned with my desire for slowness and peace.
After researching the cost of living in different states, I settled on Washington. The decision was intentional, and it started with a plan—a plan that was only possible because I had taken the time to look at my finances. Moving to Washington created new opportunities for me and my family that I couldn’t have imagined before.
Step 3: Take Action
Taking action is the most important part of creating opportunities for yourself. Once I had a plan, I took action. I moved to Washington, where I own a home and live a life filled with joy, slowness, and nature. Instead of hearing car honks, I listen to birds chirping. Instead of planes, I watch eagles fly in my backyard.
I’ve traded the hustle and bustle for peace and couldn’t be happier.
And here’s the thing: you can create these opportunities for yourself. It starts with small actions—facing your finances, planning, and taking steps toward your goals.
